Miss Universe pageant on NBC

Women from 86 countries will sashay in bikinis and evening gowns tonight for the final competition of the Miss Universe pageant, held in the United States for the first time in five years.

Miss USA Tara Conner (pictured) is vying to become the first American winner since Brook Lee in 1997.

The competition, held in Los Angeles, will air 8 p.m. tonight (Sunday, July 23) on NBC.

Few locals know that the current president of the Miss Universe/Miss USA organizations is a Pensacola native, Paula Shugart.
