'Frozen River' actress Melissa Leo hits Brandeis

Brandeis film buffs are in a tizzy over actor Mark Ruffalo's scheduled appearance and sneak peek of his made-in-Southie flick "What Doesn't Kill You" on Saturday, Nov. 15.

But don't forget veteran actress Melissa Leo. The performer is slotted to unleash her buzzworthy performance in "Frozen River" on Thursday, Nov. 13 starting at 7 p.m.

In "Frozen River," Leo plays Ray Eddy, an upstate New York mom pushed to the financial edge and finds herself lured into the world of illegal immigrant smuggling.

The screening of "Frozen River" with Leo is free and open to the public but Brandeis' film students get preferential seating at the Edie and Lew Wasserman Cinematheque, 415 South St. in Waltham.

Sam I went to school with the director Courtney Hunt. Does that make me a pseudo insider?

I don't know if you saw my "Diversions" page...but I do sometimes get away from the keyboard and experience life, rather than just write about it.

Are you going to Brandeis? Seems so far...

Anyway, good to meet you tonight! Following up with each of the panelists now. You did a great job!

You were fab tonight.

I'm not going to the Melissa Leo event but I plan on going to the Mark Ruffalo screening/Q&A on Saturday.

Much support!

When the "What Doesn't Kill You" event on Saturday was first announced, it was a first-come, first-served type event.

Now, organizers say attendees must have tickets:

"Saturday, Nov. 15, 7 p.m. “What Doesn’t Kill You” with Mark Ruffalo Tickets required to attend this event. Anyone seeking remaining tickets must attend the screening on 11/13 in order to claim them."
