I'm not aware that anywhere on the COS website Mr. O'Dea specifically says The Town is based on Townies. Perhaps closer read may suggest that the script, notes, etc for Townies was provided as indicated in the first post here - and that it was the concept of writing/directing/staring in the film, he Tt seemed a potentially "confiscated" idea. The Town is based on a book yes, but there is definitely a chance Affleck hadn't planned on playing all 3 roles until the success O'Dea had doing such in Townies was brought to light... Whether or not Mr. O'Dea used to be someone else or not - who cares? Is there anyone in Hollywood is really is who they say they are or were? So don't make a mountain out of a molehill. Talent is talent. Affleck is great off screen, onscreen - he's seems to have lost some of the sparkle maybe that will come back? O'Dea is also very talented, on and off screen - and has a very loyal, if small, fan base, building every day; and a new movie in the works which promises to be something quite BIG.. I wish the best of luck to both "sides"... and you need to grow up.

that is exactly why producers, agents and film companies will not except unknown script submissions.

Someone randomly sends in a script then accuses them of stealing it because the prodco was working on something similar.

I'd have to assume this has been in the planning stages for a while. Be realistic, even Ben Afflack isn't going to get an "idea", put together financing, a production team and then announce it in a matter of 2 weeks.

I wish O'dea luck with his film but trashing Ben Afflack for "stealing it" online isn't going to help your friend's career.

"The town" is based on a book, wouldn't then it be the author who stole the idea.

And if they did steal it did you send a script that was not copy written? then it would seem the theft (if any) is your fault.

My question is when did O'dea first write and publish his script?

Ben Affleck is a talentless hack! He stole the idea for The Town from Mikey O'Dea who was also the writer/director/star of his own movie "Townies." I sent Ben's friend Bubba the Townies script and production handbook that Mikey gave to me and Bubba gave it to Ben. Two weeks later Ben announced The Town! Is nobody original anymore?? O'Dea is submitting his Townies movie as a short film to dozens of Academy accredited festivals this summer. Good luck Mikey!!
