The following quote is from a locally shot flick currently in theaters:

"Andrew and I were about to celebrate our first anniversary together and I knew that he'd been itching to ask me to marry him and he was scared, like a little tiny bird. So, I started leaving him little hints here and there because I knew he wouldn't have the guts to ask."

A large portion of the film was shot in Rockport in April 2008, where the downtown area was transformed to look like Sitka, Alaska. In fact, set designers lined the area with large totem poles in Dock Square to mimic the frigid locale.

Other filming locations include 225 Franklin Street, Bearskin Neck in Rockport, the Myopia Hunt Club in South Hamilton as well as scenes in Gloucester.

'The Proposal' transforms Rockport into Alaska

Here are a few shots from the set of "The Proposal," the made-in-Massachusetts flick starring Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds. A large portion of the film was shot in Rockport in April 2008, where the downtown area was transformed to look like Sitka, Alaska. In fact, set designers lined the area with large totem poles in Dock Square to mimic the frigid locale.

In the flick, high-powered book editor Margaret Tate (Bullock) forces her assistant Andrew (Ryan Reynolds) to marry her in order to keep from losing her visa status in NYC and avoid deportation to Canada. "The Proposal" hits theaters on Friday, June 19.

Nick Paleologos, the executive director of the Massachusetts Film Office, unveiled the Rockport-into-Sitka switcheroo at a screening last week at the Tremont Street AMC theater.

According to Paleologos, it's a good thing when Hollywood transforms our state into another locale for the big screen.

"When Hollywood looks at a script that's not set in Boston or doesn't have a scene from the Fenway or other local spots, and yet it gets filmed here — that's big," he spilled here. "We're now getting movies set in New York and Alaska. Our reputation for film is getting bigger and better."

Locally-shot scenes for "The Proposal" were filmed at 225 Franklin Street, Bearskin Neck in Rockport, the Myopia Hunt Club in South Hamilton as well as scenes in Gloucester.

The photos above are from Bearskin Neck, where shops like Kanegis Gallery can be seen in the film as the Sitka Internet Cafe and James Russell Goldsmiths was transformed into Alaska Outfitters.

Salvatore Santone, a nine-year-old actor from Holbrook who snagged roles in three made-in-Boston films including "The Proposal," landed a speaking role in the movie which unfortunately was cut in the final edit. However, you can see him on screen while Bullock and Reynolds hike through town. His mother, Michelle, was the behind-the-scenes photographer on set.

INTERVIEW: Local wedding band in 'The Proposal'

Jeff Fraser, an Essex native and frontman for the award-winning wedding band Men In Black, is hoping the gig that he and his six-piece group filmed in May 2008 will make the final cut of the made-in-Massachusetts flick "The Proposal" starring Sandra Bullock.

In the romantic comedy slotted to hit theaters on Friday, June 19, diva boss Margaret Tate (played by Bullock) forces her assistant Andrew (Ryan Reynolds) to marry her in order to keep from losing her visa status in NYC and avoid deportation to Canada. The Rockport-shot scenes act as a stand-in for ... get this ... Sitka, Alaska.

In addition to the celluloid wedding reception shot with Men In Black at an old mansion near Singing Beach overlooking Manchester harbor. additional scenes for "The Proposal" were filmed at 225 Franklin Street, Bearskin Neck in Rockport, the Myopia Hunt Club in South Hamilton as well as scenes in Gloucester.

Fraser, who says his band has performed at hundreds of wedding receptions, but never at one where the bride and groom were movie stars, chats with Loaded Gun Boston about his big-screen debut in "The Proposal," the elaborate set for the flick which included fake leaves on trees and a dance floor built over the family swimming pool as well as how Men in Black landed the high-profile gig.

LOADED GUN: How did Men in Black get involved in filming the wedding reception scene in 'The Proposal' starring Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds?
FRASER:
The drummer's sister had an in with Boston Casting and we were selected that way.

LOADED GUN: Any behind-the-scenes experiences from the shoot at the old mansion near Singing Beach overlooking Manchester harbor?
FRASER:
We watched Ryan Reynolds and Craig T. Nelson's confrontation scene about 20 times. They ran it again and again with different camera angles. Ryan [Reynolds] was pretty serious in the reception scene and he didn't mingle with the extras. Craig T. Nelson was mingling, walking around smoking his cigar. He was friendly. I didn't want to bother any of the stars. Sandra Bullock was not in the scene, so I didn't get to see her. They brought in some old boats which was pretty cool. They spent a lot of time with the 'sea plane' scene.

LOADED GUN: The movie is set in Alaska but shot in Massachusetts. Did the filmmakers do anything special for the location switcheroo?
FRASER:
There were totem poles ... they brought in a lot of evergreen trees.

LOADED GUN: Have you heard if Men in Black made it into the final cut of the movie?
FRASER:
I haven't heard anything yet, but I'm hoping.

LOADED GUN: What are your thoughts on the dramatic influx of big-budget films to Massachusetts?
FRASER: I think it's great! I have a friend who is a local carpenter who now has steady work building movie sets. I'm looking for a way to get a spot as an extra in the new Adam Sandler movie which is being filmed in my home town of Essex this summer.

'Pink Panther 2' gives Boston a French accent

OK, the reviews are in and the made-in-Boston flick "The Pink Panther 2" hitting theaters tomorrow Friday, Feb. 6 is anything but pretty in pink.

"Plays like a series of disconnected, hit-or-miss skits in a cut-rate 'Saturday Night Live,'" writes Michael O'Sullivan, a critic with the Washington Post.

Following the formula of the string of less-than-stellar locally-shot films--like "The Women," "Paul Blart: Mall Cop" and "Bride Wars"--the film was made in the Hub to take advantage of our state's insanely low tax breaks ... but set in another city.

As previously reported in Loaded Gun,"Pink Panther 2" attempts to transform Boston into Paris.

In the flick, Martin's Jacques Clouseau teams up with a squad of bumbling International detectives in an attempt to stop a globe-trotting thief who specializes in stealing historical artifacts.

The good news is several Boston-area landmarks are showcased in the film ... although they've been given a French manicure.

Other than the warehouse-turned-film set in Chelsea, locations include the Citi Wang Center, 270 Tremont St. (the Petit Palais substitute in the movie where Martin takes an epic plunge hanging from a water hose); the Boston Convention Center, 415 Summer St., the Museum of Fine Arts, 465 Huntington Ave.; Copley Square in the Berkeley Street area and the Boston Public Library, 700 Boylston Street.

While filming at the Boston Public Library, there were reports that a priceless marble bust was knocked on the floor of the Grand Staircase in September 2007. The statue was damaged but not from the "Pink Panther 2" film crew. A spokesperson for the BPL blames it on art vandals.

Get this, "Pink Panther 2" attempts to transform Boston into Paris. How do you say 'stinks' in French?

Made-in-Boston films impacted by YFG bankruptcy

"What Doesn't Kill You," the made-in-Boston flick by Brian Goodman and starring Mark Ruffalo, Ethan Hawke and Amanda Peet, was slotted for a larger re-release by Yari Film Group in 2009 after a limited showing in NYC and Los Angeles on Friday, Dec. 12.

However, after the YFG announced this past week that their releasing division was forced to file Chapter 11, the Los Angeles Times reports that the film is now on the hunt for a new distributor.

"What Doesn't Kill You" has earned rave reviews this past week from USA Today and the New York Times. "South Boston is the new Bronx," writes USA Today's Claudia Puig, adding that the film is "a terrific character-driven tale about small-time criminals."

Also, the release of "The Maiden Heist," another Yari Film Group release shot in Boston and starring Morgan Freeman, Christopher Walken and William H. Macy, could be negatively impacted by the news that YFG is filing Chapter 11.

"Heist"--a comedy of errors following three museum security guards and their attempt to steal artwork after it's been transferred to another museum--was shopped around at the American Film Market in Santa Monica, Calif. this past November. Buzz surrounding the film is extremely positive.

As mentioned in Loaded Gun, the third made-in-Boston YFG feature "The Governess" starring Jennifer Lopez is unaffected by bankruptcy news with filming slotted for early 2009.

J-Lo film proceeds while YFG files Chapter 11

Jennifer Lopez's new made-in-Boston flick "The Governess," now slotted for production in the Hub during the first quarter of 2009, is reportedly not affected by the news that its producers, Yari Film Group, has put the releasing arm of its movie business into Chapter 11 reorganization.

Variety reports that the Bob Yari surprised staffers on Friday, Dec. 12 with an e-mail warning of impending layoffs.

“Our goal is to aggressively work toward reorganizing our debt so that we can become a stronger company,” Yari writes via e-mail. “In the meantime, our production arms are distinct entities with separate financing which remain unaffected by the legal proceedings."

The news reconfirms reports that Jennifer Lopez's "The Governess" is still greelit with pre-production already in the works.

Yari Film Group recently shot two films in Boston--the Mark Ruffalo and Ethan Hawke movie "What Doesn't Kill You" by Brian Goodman and "The Maiden Heist" starring Morgan Freeman, Christopher Walken and William H. Macy.

Nigel Cole's "The Governess" with Jennifer Lopez, initially scheduled to be shot in Boston this past September, has been moved to early next year.

In "The Governess," Jennifer Lopez plays a thief who poses as a wealthy widower’s nanny who must come clean when she starts to fall for the man she initially planned to rob.
