One of my old college haunts, Circle Cinemas at 399 Chestnut Hill Ave. in Brookline, will officiallly close its doors on Sunday, Sept. 7.According to the Globe, National Amusements Inc. is shutting down the 68-year-old theater because the location is "no longer financially viable."
For those not in the know, this Cleveland Circle staple is a seven-screen, old-school movie theater that's a throwback to the '70s and walking distrance from the Reservoir and Cleveland Circle stations as well as Boston College.
Unfortunately, Circle Cinema's curtain call is emblematic of the financial impact of DVDs and home movie viewing is having on many Massachusetts movie theaters.
