The week in quotes from Hollywood in the Hub

"These dudes were acting like I walked in the bar with a Yankees jersey on."

--Brody Jenner, known for his bad boy antics on "The Hills" and his latest MTV reality show "Bromance," responds to a verbal assault at Bocelli's Restaurant in Medford while courting "Bromance" winner Luke Verge in the season finale.

“When I saw (Paul Blart) I guess I could say it sure looked familiar."

--Alfred Thomas Catalfo, a writer and attorney in Dover, N.H., tells the Herald that the made-in-Massachusetts flick "Paul Blart: Mall Cop" may be a rip off of his previously-submitted script called "Mall Cop."

"I don't anticipate any screenings of 'The Maiden Heist' in the near future."

--Yari Film Group's Emily Lambert e-mails the Globe saying that the made-in-Boston flick "The Maiden Heist," slotted to be unveiled at Worcester's Hanover Theatre at 7:30 p.m. March 7, 2009 , may not see the light of day.

“That was all her. We found out about it the next day.”

--Hasty Pudding Theatricals President David J. Andersson says Renee Zellweger--their Woman of the Year slotted to get her Pudding Pot on Thursday, Feb. 5--spilled the beans about her award to Dave Letterman on the "Late Show" before the Hasty Pudding crew could alert the press.

"[T]he role required a bad ass skater and well, I fit the bill.I really enjoyed my time in Boston working on the movie. I was there for the entire production and enjoyed the process and just tried to be a good soldier."

--Mike Vallely, "Drive on Fuel TV" host and lead singer for Revolution Mother, says his role as skateboarder Rudolph in "Paul Blart: Mall Cop" was a perfect fit.

``I’ve always loved to dance. That’s why I entered dirty-dancing contests."

--Eleanor Bergstein, writer and inspiration for the flick-turned-musical "Dirty Dancing," says she's smitten with the stage version of her dirty-dancing past hitting the Boston Opera House on Saturday, Feb. 7.

Medford's Luke Verge wins MTV's 'Bromance'

Flying via private jet to Boston as one of two finalists, local Luke Verge did win over Brody Jenner's affections to snag the ultimate BFF bragging rights on MTV's "Bromance" unveiled on the show's season finale airing 9 p.m. Monday, Feb. 2.

As Jenner's new "bro," Verge receives keys to a luxury downtown LA bachelor pad and a brand-new Toyota Scion.

However, Jenner's trip to Boston to meet Verge's family--including a warm chat with mom Virginia--did have a few moments of drunken drama.

After playing stick ball on the streets of Medford and chowing down on a plateful of lobster with a bib-wearing Jenner, the boys including finalist Femi head to Bocelli's Restaurant, 374 Main St. in Medford.

At Bocelli's, one of Verge's so-called friends steps up and attacks Jenner spewing things like, "I wanna know about LC," "Where is Spencer?" and "Shut up pretty boy."

Jenner responds to the drunken bar brawl: "These dudes were acting like I walked in the bar with a Yankees jersey on."

Last June, casting directors from executive producer Ryan Seacrest's camp were cruising Boston's Ned Devine's at Quincy Market in Faneuil Hall searching for some fresh meat with a Boston accent. Verge, who attended the casting call on a whim, made the cut.

In the last scene that oddly echoed the finale of "The Bachelor," Verge pulls up in a black rental sporting a '70s-style powder blue tux and takes an elevator where he's greeted by Jenner and a group of partygoers.

Jenner's parting words: "Congratulations Luke, you are my bromance."

Now, where's the ring?

UPDATE: Verge watched the show finale at The Place, 2 Broad St. in the Financial District, where he stepped up as bartender for the evening. Meanwhile, Jenner was heading back to the Left Coast after partying with pals at the Super Bowl in Tampa.

Local Luke Verge makes finale of MTV's 'Bromance'

Adding fuel to an anonymous source claiming that local Luke Verge did win over Brody Jenner's affections to snag the ultimate BFF bragging rights on MTV's "Bromance," word from the show's hype machine is that Verge and his competitors--Femi and Chris--had to pass a lie detector test on the show's season finale airing 9 p.m. Monday, Feb. 2 on MTV.

According to the MTV release, "Brody will send one more person packing before he travels with the last two standing via private jet to their hometowns. Once there, he sets out to get a first-hand look at their lives through their families and friends so he can get the real deal on which of them is better at being a real friend."

Jenner made a pit stop at the Revolution Rock Bar in Boston on Thursday, Dec. 9 while the was still filming--and likely made the trek to Medford--which supports the online rumors that Verge does make it all the way ... at least as one of the final two.

The winner receives keys to a luxury downtown LA bachelor pad and a brand-new Toyota Scion.

Nicole, a Loaded Gun reader, says the anticipation is too much. "I'm a good friend of Luke's and I have no idea if he won or not, " she writes here. "He's not telling any of us how the show ends. It's killing me not to know."

Verge, a self-described "designated party animal" and 24-year-old substitute elementary school teacher originally from Medford currently living in Las Vegas, says his stint on reality TV in Los Angeles is a far cry from his life growing up in Medford.

"I mean the first night [we] were at a lingerie party with smoke-shows and taking limo rides. Back home I'm lucky to see half a nip from the drunk girl who fell over at the local dollar draft bar," Verge writes on his blog here.

Now, isn't that bromantic.

Did Luke Verge win MTV's 'Bromance' top prize?

Did local Luke Verge win over Brody Jenner's affections to snag the ultimate BFF bragging rights on MTV's "Bromance"? Some guy in the audio clip above, posted on Barstool Sports, believes so ... in fact, the alleged family friend left a supposed voicemail message at MTV headquarters in NYC.

“He’s spilling the beans and telling us everything that happens before it happens,” the caller says about Verge with a thick Medford accent. “He’s ruining it for everyone in this area . . . This is serious information.”

The week in quotes from Hollywood in the Hub

"So as we all saw this past monday ... I got the boot! Very upsetting but inspiring at the same time,"

--Gary Vaughn, a finalist for Brody Jenner's affections on MTV's "Bromance" until last week,
writes on his blog that he returned home to Mattapoisett after taping the show in LA and found a renewed optimism.

“It’s like really fun to do."

--Salvatore Santone, a nine-year-old actor from Holbrook who snagged roles in three made-in-Boston films and the locally-shot Italian TV show "Four Single Fathers," says he's officially caught the acting bug.

"I always wanted to shoot in Boston because there are so many movies that take place in New York, and I felt that the suburban area outside of Boston is such a - to me, it's photogenic. Some people might not think that. In some ways, because I spent all my formative years there, I am a regional filmmaker."

--Tze Chun, Randolph native and director of the Sundance Film Festival entry "Children of Invention," spills to the Globe why he returned to his suburban Boston roots.

"I was an extra. No lines, but I'm seen walking around in a mall cop uniform."I just went and saw it (Sunday). I thought it was good. I laughed."

--Bill Dugan, an aspiring actor from Roseville, MI and featured extra in "Paul Blart: Mall Cop,"
learns the "no small parts, just small actors" lesson.

“Boston’s a great city, we had so much fun. There was one restaurant in the North End that was really amazing, but because of time constraints and the shooting schedule we didn’t get out as much as we liked.”

--Kevin James, riding high after snagging the No. 1 slot with the made-in-Boston "Paul Blart: Mall Cop" flick at the box office over the weekend, he may come back to the area for two more films.

“We try to be like a ‘real movie theater,’ with popcorn and real theater seats and trailers before the movie. But at the same time, we’re playing not only new independent films and foreign films, but also classics from the full range of film history, from ‘Casablanca’ to ‘Planet of the Apes.’ We’ll show pretty much any movie that we think has entertainment value or artistic value or historical value.”

--George Bragdon, program manager of the Coolidge Corner Theatre, says it's been a blockbuster year for local indie theaters.

Boston-area boys represent on MTV's 'Bromance'

As previously mentioned in Loaded Gun, casting directors from executive producer Ryan Seacrest's camp were cruising Boston's Ned Devine's at Quincy Market in Faneuil Hall searching for some fresh meat for Brody Jenner's new MTV project "Bromance."

Luke Verge, a self-described "designated party animal" and 24-year-old substitute elementary school teacher originally from Medford currently living in Las Vegas made the cut. So did 24-year-old Mattapoisett resident Gary Vaughn (pictured above).

Verge explains on his IAmOnMTV blog that he attended the "Bromance" casting call on a whim.

"I went with one of my buddies to the first casting call and someone canceled so they asked me to do an interview so I did. Looking back on it, probably one of the best accidents I've ever made," Verge gushes. "I got to meet great people and made some great friendships along the way."

Vaughn dispels any rumors that "Bromance" involves some reportedly awkward guy-on-guy action in a hot tub.

"I'm a dancer and yes I'm straight. I know it's hard to believe, but believe it. I've been dancing for 22 years now, and will continue to do so for many years to come. I'm also a teacher and choreographer."

"Bromance" premieres 9 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29 on MTV.

Bevy of locals make cut on MTV reality shows

Move over Mr. Boston. There's a crop of locals in line to take away some of your nose-picking "I Love New York" reality TV thunder.

MTV unveiled its Tila Tequila-inspired "A Double Shot At Love" with its blonde Ikki twins--Vikki and Rikki--and an unlikely trio of locals currently gracing the small screen vying for some twin action.

Paul (a soft-spoken computer engineer), James (a conservative salesman with a thick Boston accent currently living in NYC) and Elise (a super-competitive lesbian trainer) all made it past the first-round eliminations on the season premiere. Watch the trio on "A Double Shot At Love" airing 10 p.m. Tuesdays on MTV.

Last June, casting directors from executive producer Ryan Seacrest's camp were cruising Boston's Ned Devine's at Quincy Market in Faneuil Hall searching for some fresh meat for Brody Jenner's new MTV project "Bromance."

Luke Verge (pictured above), a self-described "designated party animal" and 24-year-old substitute elementary school teacher from Medford, as well as 24-year-old Mattapoisett resident Gary Vaughn made the cut. "Bromance" premieres 9 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29 on MTV.

Also, MTV recently announced its cast for "The Real World: Brooklyn" slotted for the boob tube Wednesday, Jan. 7 at 10 p.m. Scott, a 24-year-old "muscle head" from Salem, NH, rounds out the cast of eight (yes, this is the first season MTV deviates from its cast of seven strangers formula) with his "award-winning abs," which were featured in Men’s Health magazine.

Ronnie and Ben consummate 'bromance'

The on-and-off again “bromance” between openly gay contestant Ronnie Kroell and his roommate Ben, a prison guard from Nashville, Tenn. on Bravo’s “Make Me a Supermodel” hit a fever pitch last night when the two simulated some pre-coital (the guy-on-guy version) grope action for a Girbaud Jeans video shoot.

Ben, the so-called straight guy, suggested the pairing after a less-than-steamy make out with of the female model wannabes.

When Ronnie and Ben finally touched for the camera, it was magic.

The scene punctuates an already over-the-top season of gay-for-pay sexuality. In earlier episodes, there were a few uber-gay challenges--like frat bro Perry and blonde twink Casey getting a little animalistic in a man-on-man photo shoot and a recent sitting where the models strip down to their birthday suits in front of a room of painters.

Unfortunately, Ronnie and Ben are pitted against each other in this week’s bottom three.

"Make Me A Supermodel" scorches the small screen 10 p.m. next Thursday on BRAVO.
